The Art Of Masking

WITH MAISON PUR

Call it skincare, self care, or just an excuse to take a few minutes for yourself, masking is one of my favorite ways to unwind. I typically take the time to see what my skin is up to (breakouts? dry patches?) and then pick a mask that will address the issue(s) at hand. But sometimes I just want to mask for the sake of masking and luckily, there's a mask for that too! I'm sharing all my favorite masks below and I have some great all around picks for all skin types. I've also got the low down on which mask to use for different issues and skin types.

First, let's talk basics. I usually aim to mask 1-3 times a week. Always start with a freshly washed face before you apply the mask. Some masks come with a little scoop to get the product out, but if you're like me and prefer to use your fingers, make sure your hands are clean so you're not introducing bacteria into your precious little jar of face mask. One last tip- Never let a mask dry all the way on your face. This can pull your skin and dry it out. It's better to remove it before it's fully dried.

Organic Face Mask Guide

Dry Skin

Masks for dry skin usually fall into two categories: Cream-based masks that moisturize skin and masks that hydrate skin by pulling moisture in (think ingredients like hyaluronic acid, aloe, etc). Sheet masks are great and often do both. With this list, I'll also include a third category that increases your blood flow and helps your skin to maintain it's own moisture level. If you get dry skin in the winter, consider upping your water intake and/or sleeping with a humidifier. We overlook water intake in the winter, but our bodies and skin still need it!

Oily/Breakout prone

While not all oily skin is breakout prone, most masks that work on breakouts also happen to work great for oily skin too. A lot of the ones listed below help your skin regulate oil production, heal breakouts and prevent new ones. Some ingredient all-stars in this category are activated charcoal and ingredients like cacao that stimulate your circulation and promote healing. Remember to go gently with the ones that have exfoliants in them if you currently have breakouts.

Sensitive

If you're on the sensitive side, there are tons of great options, including one of my favorite masks, the Mermaid Mask! All of these will smooth, hydrate and calm skin. If you're super sensitive, it's probably wise to always do a patch test first with any new products you introduce into your routine.

To Get That Glow

Sometimes I look in the mirror and my skin just seems blah. It just needs a boost to get glowing again. Sound familiar? Well, I've got several miracle workers that never fail me. These are all good candidates for those times you just want to mask for the sake of masking too.
